Biography

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born to Jacqueline and Chris at 6:00pm on April 5th 1990 in Paris, France. Jacqueline and Chris both work as lawyers. The family moved back to England when Emma was five. Emma and her brother Alexander (3 years Emma's junior) moved to Oxfordshire where she lives with her mother during school term times.

In September 1995 at the age of 5, Emma attended the Lynam's, the nursery school of the prestigious Dragon School in Oxford, during which time she discovered a big interest in poetry. Emma was rewarded for her interest in performance and poetry at the age 7 (attending at the time), when she won the Daisy Pratt poetry competition for her recital of The Sea by James Reeves.

In September 1998 at the age of 8; Emma moved to the main Dragon School itself where she would spend a very happy 5 years when she was not filming. In 1999 at the age of 9, Emma was given the opportunity to audition for a role in the upcoming Harry Potter movie. The rest is obviously history.

In 2000, when she was 10, Emma began filming for the first time and was very nervous for her first day on the set.

In its opening day, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone broke records all over the world and critical acclaim was piled on Emma for her performance as Hermione.

Between 2000 and 2007, Emma has appeared in the five Harry Potter films. During that time Emma's global popularity has won her many awards such as the AOL Moviegoers' Award for Best Actress (won 2 occasions and runner-up for another) and countless other awards including a regular spot in Germany's Bravo magazine's Otto awards.

Her appearance as cover girl in 2005's Teen Vogue magazine and tne recent 2007 Tatler magazine made Emma the youngest celebrity to ever grace the cover of either of these pupblications in the history of their existence. Emma was also honoured to be invited to make a speech at Oxford University famous Oxford Union, in front of hundreds of brainy students.

Just recently Emma announced that she was prepared to agree terms with Warner Brothers for the remaining two of the 7 Harry Potter movies, much to the relief of fans all over the globe after certain areas of the media had hinted that she might not be coming back. Emma had never had any specific intentions of leaving Hermione behind her; she just wanted to make sure she was able to balance her school work with her acting career.

Emma has always enjoyed learning and certainly shares some same traits with her character Hermione as she achieved 8 A* and 2 A Grades in her GCSE Examinations in 2006. In May 2007, Emma took her A/S level exams in Art, History of Art, English and geography and will now drop a subject (History of Art) for her A-Levels in the new term which Emma will complete in 2008.

In her spare time Emma loves being back at school with her friends, playing sport (including hockey, tennis and netball for Headigton's 1st teams), painting, singing and dancing (Emma has competed twice with her school in global dance competition 'Rock Challange').

Future challanges for Emma in 2007 and 2008 include her A levels and the sixth film. In 2009, Emma hopes to attend university after a gap year and continue to juggle her acting career with academic life. She hopes before long to perform on stage again, as she did all those years ago.
